Hallmark Stars Whose 'Happily Ever After' Was Cut Short By Divorce

The Hallmark Channel prides itself on proving that perfect love exists, and usually in a small American town where strong career women, talk of big city life, and physical affection beyond a kiss on the cheek are usually a strict no-no. Divorce isn't so much a dirty word in the world of ultra-wholesome TV movies. It's a non-existent one; just think of how many marriages are cut short by a tragic death rather than two people simply realizing they're not made for each other. The network would rather kill off its characters than have them go through the scandal of a mutual split.

Of course, the actors who star in these picture-perfect romances aren't immune from the divorce courts. A whole host of regular faces have chosen to legally separate from the partners they once promised to love and to cherish till death do us part. From the amicable to the acrimonious, here's a look at 11 marriages which didn't get the fairytale happy ever after.

Former soap opera favorite Victor Webster has been a Hallmark regular ever since the 2012 TV movie "Puppy Love," most notably with his roles as Kyle Carter and Chad Norton in two of its most popular film series, "A Hannah Swensen Mystery" and "Matchmaker Mysteries." And the star looked like he'd solved his love life when he got engaged and then married in 2021. Unfortunately, within the space of 18 months, he was heading for the divorce courts.

Webster had said "I do" to Shantel VanSanten, a fellow actor whose credits include "The Boys," "For All Mankind," and the "FBI" franchise. But things quickly soured between the pair, with both parties taking to Instagram with cryptic messages about how things went wrong. The former, for example, shared the quote (via People), "Once you grow up, you realize you don't want to be crazy in love. You want to be calm in love, stable in love, patient in love, understood in love, safe in love. Your partner should give you peace of mind and reassurance, not constant little heart attacks and high anxiety."

The couple's divorce proceedings also made headlines for the wild pet custody twist. Webster was declared the sole owner of their dog Nova. And while VanSanten was occasionally allowed to look after the canine, she couldn't do so for more than three weeks; otherwise, she'd be fined $10,000 for each day thereafter.

Best-known for her recurring roles as Mona Vanderwaal in "Pretty Little Liars" and Margot Covey in the "To All The Boys" franchise, Janel Parrish has also appeared in numerous Hallmark Channel love stories in recent years, including "Sugarplummed," "Never Been Chris'd," and "Return to Office." But her own love story has been turbulent to say the least.

In 2017, she walked down the aisle with chemical engineer Chris Long just two weeks after his father was killed by a drunk driver. The pair then announced their split nine years later, and by the time their divorce settlement was finalized, Parrish had begun a short-lived relationship with "Dancing with the Stars" professional Sasha Farber.

Taking to social media shortly after news broke that she and Long were no more, Parrish expressed gratitude for all the support she'd received from fans and insisted that the split had been entirely amicable. "There is still so much love and respect between us, and I'm deeply grateful for everything we built together," she added in her Instagram Story (via InStyle). "This chapter of my life, and Chris, will always mean so much to me."

Five years after removing her glasses for that iconic "ugly duckling"-to-beautiful swan walk down the stairs in "She's All That," Rachael Leigh Cook walked down the aisle with fellow actor Daniel Gillies. And the pair looked to be for keeps, going on to have two children and celebrate 15 wedding anniversaries before announcing their split in 2019.

While appearing on the podcast "I Love You So Much," Cook wondered (via Just Jared) if she may have become just a little too self-reliant for her marriage to last: "I think I've always just been like a little bit hyper independent, just having to look after myself for so long, just you know, being a kid in the industry and being on my own and being financially independent and all this stuff. Like it would be really easy, I think if you were Daniel, to feel like I didn't really need him that much."

Cook, whose Hallmark Channel credits include "Frozen in Love," "Autumn in the Vineyard," and "Cross Country Christmas," also revealed how she differed from Gillies in that she's a people pleaser and averse to both light touch and confrontation. "How much can you love on someone who's, like, 'We're here for the good times, I don't feel like fighting with you,'" she added. And she's since moved on from her divorce with one-time Superman, actor Brandon Routh.

Erica Durance, who's appeared in Hallmark Channel movies "Color My World with Love," "Wedding Planner Mystery," and "A Scottish Love Scheme," has gone through two divorces, first to Wesley Parker in 1999 after three years of marriage and then David Palffy in 2024 shortly after they'd celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary.

Durance announced her split from the latter, with whom she has two sons, in a joint statement that asked the media for privacy. "Out of respect for our children that's all that will be conveyed at this time," it read (via TMZ), referring to the bare minimum details disclosed about their amicable separation. "Thank you in advance for your understanding as we navigate the next chapter in our lives."

Durance was similarly reluctant to share much information when she took to Instagram just a year later to reveal she'd now moved on with a new partner. In fact, she didn't even give his name, let alone show his face in a story captioned (via Yahoo! Entertainment), "To my magic man, Let's keep walking together in the rain."

In 2026, Chyler Leigh made an unexpected announcement on the podcast "Books That Changed My Life," and it wasn't anything to do with her choice of reading material. Indeed, the actor, who played leading lady Katherine in four seasons of the Hallmark Channel's time-traveling drama "The Way Home," sparked headlines by revealing that she'd separated from her husband of 25 years.

"It's amicable and we're co-parenting, we're doing all the things that we can," Leigh disclosed (via People) about her split from Nathan West, a fellow actor and father of her three children. "But [we] just hit a point where it was like, 'OK, what you want and what I want aren't really lining up anymore. And I'd rather us be on good terms and us not harbor the resentment and the anger ... all that stuff.'"

Leigh, who met West while they were both auditioning for a pilot for The WB in 1999 and a year later shared the screen in "7th Heaven," went on to add, "It's not worth it. And when it becomes so abundantly apparent and the kids are picking up on it and the whole family, it just shifts the mood and the dynamic of everything."

"I think I'm a lot less afraid in life at this point because I feel like I've already gone through something that was my worst nightmare and survived," Autumn Reeser shared (via Yahoo! Entertainment) on podcast "Out of Line." The actor, who's appeared in no fewer than six installments of Hallmark Channel's "The Wedding Veil" film series, was referring to her split from her husband of five years, Jesse Warren.

Reeser, who tied the knot with the director and father of her two children in 2009, cited irreconcilable differences while filing her court documents. And while guesting on another podcast, "Some Kind of Mystic," the star hinted that communication may have been one such difference.

"Looking back, there were so many things that I would have liked to see be different that I was afraid to speak to and I wasn't sure if I had the right to feel what I felt, what I wanted," Reeser said (via The List). "I didn't trust myself. And now I look back and I'm like, 'That is just a normal, healthy relationship that you're asking for.'"

Scott Wolf, who shot to fame in the mid-'90s as Bailey Salinger in young adult drama "Party of Five," spent 20 years with "The Real World: New Orleans" star Kelley Limp before their marriage ended amid a highly public and difficult period.

It all began in June 2025, shortly after Wolf had officially filed his divorce papers. Firstly, Limp was taken into psychiatric care following a wellness check requested by a friend. She subsequently sparked concerns with a number of concerning social media posts as her ex was granted temporary custody of their three kids along with a restraining order. And following an arrest for reportedly subjecting her loved ones to online harassment, she was ordered by the courts to receive involuntary psychiatric care for two months.

A year on, Limp publicly apologized for the "breakthrough drug-induced mania with psychosis" sparked by a combination of prescription drugs, stress, and changes in her hormones. "I have spent my life believing in love, hope, kindness, and compassion," she wrote in a candid Instagram post. "What I became was the opposite. Cruel. Vicious. Mean." Despite describing this period as the hardest of his life, Scott, whose Hallmark Channel credits include "A Merry Scottish Christmas" and "A Christmas Love Story," has vowed to continue supporting his former partner in her mental health struggles.

Katie Cassidy is now part of a Hallmark Channel power couple, having started dating her "A Royal Christmas Crush" co-star Stephen Huszar. But she'd previously been wed to Matthew Rodgers, although the ink had barely dried on the marriage certificate when they headed for the divorce courts.

Yes, the daughter of '70s singer and actor David Cassidy filed for divorce just 13 months after tying the knot in Florida, citing irreconcilable differences as the cause. Speaking to People in 2022, Katie admitted that coming to terms with her marriage breakdown was made harder by circumstances beyond her control. "January 2020, I moved back to LA, filed for divorce and then we were all in lockdown for like a year. LA is where I was raised, it's where I live and so I didn't have a choice. I was like, 'Okay, got to pick yourself up by your bootstraps sometimes.'"

"I think if I'm supposed to meet someone, I'll meet them naturally, organically," Katie added. "The way the world, [the] universe wants it to be." And seemingly, the universe wanted her to meet the new love of her life on the set of a Hallmark festive movie.

Before she dated fellow actors Will Estes, Jesse Lee Soffer, and Chicago Cubs coach David Ross, along with getting remarried wed to director Jared LaPine, Torrey Devitto was married to "The Vampire Diaries" pin-up Paul Wesley. And their divorce after just two years not only impacted her personal life, but it had a notable effect on her career, too.

Speaking to Rachel Bilson on podcast "Broad Ideas," DeVitto discussed how her stint on the blood-sucking show that propelled her ex to stardom automatically came to an end at the same time. "Once we were splitting up I was like, 'Pfft, not going back there,'" she said (via People), having appeared in six episodes as Alaric's love interest, Dr. Meredith Fell. "I'm not that kind of person that's like, 'Well, this is business, I can stay.' It's like, no. I don't want to come back. I'm good, thank you."

Devitto, whose Hallmark Channel credits include "Write Before Christmas," "Rip in Time," and "Love's Greek to Me," also reflected on how the show's fandom reacted to their split negatively. "For a couple years, anybody that I would date afterwards, people would just [say], 'He's so disgusting. He'll never be [Wesley]. How could you do this?'"

You get two Hallmark Channel divorcees for the price of one here. Currently starring as Sgt. Tim Bradford on police procedural "The Rookie," Eric Winter has graced two of the network's TV movies during his decade-spanning acting career: 2017's "Finding Santa" and 2019's "A Taste of Summer." And his loved-up performance in the latter wouldn't have been much of a challenge. For he starred alongside his real-life wife, Roselyn Sanchez.

The pair, who also have their own podcast "He Said, Ella Dijo," and wrote the kids' book "Sebi and the Land of Cha Cha Cha" together, walked down the aisle in Puerto Rico in 2008. But they were first introduced to each other at a Los Angeles bash when both parties were fresh from a divorce. Sanchez had been married to Gary Stretch for three years, while Winter had been wed to Allison Ford for four.

While the happy couple appeared to have kept quiet about their past relationships, at least one ex hasn't been so shy. "I've only been in love once in my life, and I wasn't happy then," Stretch told The Guardian. "Love can be traumatic. I think I'm better off on my own."

There's also a Hallmark Channel connection between divorcees Katrina Law and Keith Andreen: they co-starred in the 2013 TV movie "Snow Bride" in the same year they walked down the aisle. Unfortunately, since splitting 12 years later, the relationship between the pair deteriorated significantly.

Just months after filing court papers, Law was granted a temporary restraining order after accusing Andreen of tracking her location. "In spite of the fact that I filed a petition for dissolution on August 11, 2025, Keith has continued to monitor my movements without my consent and stalk me," she declared (via People). "I do not feel safe around him." She also alleged that Andreen had displayed stalking behavior toward a man named J. that she briefly had an affair with, used AI to bring her name into disrepute in various voicemails, and hacked into her social media accounts.

Law also opened up about the behavior that led to the downfall of their marriage, claiming that Andreen would often manipulate their six-year-old daughter and that Law was left constantly worried about his arsenal of guns: "Keith informed me that he took the firearms to his sister's house, but refused to remove the shotgun from the master bedroom safe in case J. or someone else came to the home. I do not have access to that safe, only Keith has the access code."
