Taylor Sheridan is known for pushing his actors to their limits for his shows, and "Lioness" and "The Madison" are no exceptions. Cast members from both series have spoken about just how intense some of the filming conditions were for them — but let's just say "Lioness" takes things to even bigger extremes.

Former Hallmark star Jill Wagner has spoken about battle scenes in "Lioness" being incredibly lifelike, which she sees as a major plus. Speaking to Collider Interviews in August 2026, she explained, "I mean obviously, we're not really getting shot at, but when you're in those moments ... [Sheridan] puts you there." Sure enough, Laysla De Oliveira revealed in the same interview that he really did have hot shells raining down on them in one scene. Another particularly challenging sequence to shoot was the Season 2 final battle. In a video posted to the show's TikTok page, Genesis Rodriguez said she'd pulled her hamstring shooting it. Likewise, a number of cast members recalled the heat, shooting the scene in Texas while it was around 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Wagner even said she had the beginnings of heatstroke. It's not always hot, though; in an Instagram snap shared by Zoe Saldaña, LaMonica Garrett could be seen warming up by a space heater on a much colder day.

Tough conditions aside, the cast has spoken about "Lioness" being super fulfilling. "We're all smiling at the end of the day, exhausted, worn out, a little cut up, but ... [it's] a lot of fun," James Jordan shared in the TikTok video. Plus, Saldaña has also said everyone involved knows what they're in for. Speaking to People in August 2026 of the high expectations, she said, "You either accept the challenge and make sure that you don't f*** up ... or you quit." Heard!

The Madison also has tough conditions

From injury-causing battle sequences to intense weather, "Lioness" poses a ton of difficulties for its cast, but "The Madison" isn't an easy ride for its actors either. In fact, cast members of the latter have spoken about the rugged Montana set posing serious challenges — like "no bathroom." Speaking to LA Times Studios in May 2026 about filming in the Madison River valley, Michelle Pfeiffer said, "There's no AC, there's no plumbing ... there isn't anything." Pfeiffer also shared that because the show was filmed 360, "They couldn't have a bunch of trailers around, so there was really no place for us to sit." Of course, that meant no craft services either, and Pfeiffer recalled, "There was no food." That still wasn't all, and she also explained that being so exposed to the elements meant they'd asked for heaters during winter (no word if they were recycled from the "Lioness" set) and umbrellas in summer. Even so, the "Grease 2" actor acknowledged that despite the location's challenges, "It is breathtakingly glorious."

"Suits" alum Patrick J. Adams has also spoken about how tough the elements can be. In a March 2026 interview with Collider Behind the Scenes, he shared that there were some days weather caused them to switch shoots. However, he added that, "For the most part, the nature really cooperated with us." As for when it didn't, he gushed, "It's a real testament to people who work on Taylor [Sheridan] shows. They were just like, 'Alright, this isn't happening today. We'll do something else.'"

All in all, both "Lioness" and "The Madison" come with a ton of challenges for their stars. Of course, "Lioness" sounds a tad more grueling, but we appreciate everything the cast and crew for both shows put themselves through to make some truly exceptional TV.
