Spike Lee's Son Looks Just Like The Legend
Spike Lee is one of Hollywood's most peerless voices, and in 2020, the filmmaker's work is more relevant than ever. The visionary director made his mark with movies — or "joints" — like She's Gotta Have It and Do The Right Thing. His classics have remained influential over the years, with She's Gotta Have It adapted into a Netflix series in 2017. Most recently, Lee directed 2019's Oscar-buzzworthy BlacKkKlansman, and his newest film Da 5 Bloods debuted on Netflix during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lee has never been one to avoid attention. After he took home his first Oscar for best adapted screenplay for BlackKKKlansman in 2019, he got up from his seat and nearly walked out as controversial competitor, Green Book, was crowned best bicture. Then, at the 2020 Oscars, Lee made headlines again for a purple custom suit he was sporting as an ode to the late Kobe Bryant, as CNN reported. Even on Hollywood's biggest night, Lee can't help but stand out.
But one area where Spike Lee rarely generates controversy is his impressive family. Take a look at the resemblance between him and his son Jackson.
Jackson Lee is following in his dad's footsteps
Spike Lee has been wed to wife and filmmaker Tonya Lewis Lee since 1993, and the pair share two children, daughter Satchell Lee and son Jackson Lee. Jackson can often be spotted with his dad on the front lines of New York Knicks games.
When it comes to looks, it's not hard to see the resemblance between Jackson and his old man. The two definitely share some facial features (though Jackson is taller than his old man), and the duo has more in common than meets the eye.
Spike Lee's close relationship with the sneaker world, and specifically Nike, goes all the way back to 1986, when his Mars Blackmon character from She's Gotta Have It became the star of an Air Jordan commercial spot. Also, the character Buggin' Out famously got his Jordans scuffed in an iconic scene in Do The Right Thing. Now, Spike is passing the sneaker torch to his son Jackson, who designed the Jordan Mars 270 for Nike in 2019.
"The other day, like 100 boxes showed up at the house, so I was going through it to get my size," Lee told Complex in July 2019. "Then I went to Instagram to say how proud of [Jackson] I was."
Jackson Lee is 'doing the right thing'
Like his father, Spike Lee's son Jackson has had his moments in the negative spotlight. In 2014, according to the New York Post, someone claiming to be Jackson was booted from a strip club for being underage. The man reportedly used a fake ID that said he was 22 "and boasted that he was the son of the famous director," per the Post. But the bouncers quickly googled the star's son, realizing he was just 17. He was asked to leave — but not before ordering a bottle of vodka on his American Express Black Card.
Jackson's mom Tonya Lewis Lee denied that the person in this incident was her son. She told the Post, "That is a baldfaced lie. That never happened." In any case, the real Jackson Lee is now old enough to enter whatever establishments he likes.
Meanwhile, Spike and Jackson appear to be very close. According to Vanity Fair, Spike plans to return to his Knicks seats next season despite a March 2020 clash with the team, and his son will almost certainly be by his side. As long as Jackson Lee "does the right thing," he'll surely make a name for himself just like his dad.
