What Miley Cyrus Just Said About Her Feelings For Liam Hemsworth Is Raising Eyebrows

In December 2020, Miley Cyrus opened up about ex-husband Liam Hemsworth in an interview with Howard Stern. The "Malibu" singer revealed her true feelings about her ex and explained why exactly the couple got a divorce. Cyrus and Hemsworth first began their relationship after meeting on the set of 2010's The Last Song. By May 2012, the couple had gotten engaged for the first time before splitting up a year later, per Entertainment Tonight. After a three year break, the two got back together in 2016. In December 2018, Cyrus and Hemsworth said "I do," before calling it quits less than a year later.

"I had a very public, very big breakup that was over a 10-year span of a relationship ... It's like a death when you lose a love that deep. It feels like a death," Cyrus said in August 2020 on the Call Her Daddy podcast. "Honestly, sometimes [death] even feels easier because [with a breakup] the person is still walking on the earth."

Now, the former Disney darling is letting fans in on what her marriage was really like.

Miley Cyrus' house fire led to her marriage with Liam Hemsworth

During an interview on The Howard Stern Show in December 2020, Miley Cyrus opened up about the brush fire that took her Malibu home in 2018. "Our house burned down. We had been like, engaged — I don't know if we really ever thought we were actually going to get married, but when we lost our house in Malibu — which if you listen to my voice pre- and post-fire, they're very different so that trauma really affected my voice. And I was actually in South Africa, so I couldn't come home, and like, my animals were tied to a post at the beach. I lost everything," the Plastic Hearts singer shared (via Entertainment Tonight). "I had so much and it was all gone, every song I had ever written was in that house."

The singer continued, "[e]very photograph of me that my parents had given to me, all my scripts, I lost everything. And so in trying to put that back together, instead of going, 'Oh, nature kind of did something I couldn't do for myself; it forced me to let go,' I ran toward the fire. Cyrus added that she "clung to what [she] had left of that house, which was [Hemsworth and herself]."

Cyrus and Hemsworth tied the knot just one month after the November 2018 house fire. So what went wrong?

Miley Cyrus still 'very much' loves Liam Hemsworth

Opening up to Howard Stern in December 2020, Miley Cyrus revealed there was just "too much conflict" in her marriage to Liam Hemsworth (via Entertainment Tonight). The "Wrecking Ball" singer shared that she doesn't "get off on drama or fighting" and wanted "to be anchored by someone" when she comes home. With too many arguments between the young couple, Hemsworth and Cyrus decided to separate less than a year into their marriage. "And I really do and did love him very, very, very much and still do, always will," Cyrus revealed in The Howard Stern Show interview.

On the other hand, a source told Entertainment Tonight that Hemsworth is focused on his relationship with model Gabriella Brooks. "Liam Hemsworth isn't upset by the recent interview Miley did where she says there was too much conflict in their marriage. Liam was very hurt when they initially broke up, but he has moved on now and is happy with Gabriella. The source added that Hemsworth is "very traditional and Gabriella shares the same values as him and gets along with his family. Their relationship is easygoing and they have similar upbringings and backgrounds."
