Why 90 Day Fiance Fans Are Sick Of Couples Like Brandon And Julia
Season 8 of 90 Day Fiancé kicked off on Dec. 8, 2020, and in addition to featuring some familiar faces, the series also introduced several brand new couples. One of those couples is Brandon Gibbs, a farmer boy from Dinwiddie, Va., and Julia Trubkina, a go-go dancer from Russia.
After they fell in love virtually, Brandon proposed to Julia after just five months of dating and two meet-ups, aiming to obtain a U.S. visa for her so they could continue their relationship. Like many 90 Day couples, Brandon and Julia have a lot working against them. In addition to being a brand new and long-distance couple, they also come from very different cultures and lifestyles, and life on Brandon's family farm will undoubtedly be a bit of a shock to Julia — especially because his parents are expecting her to chip in with the work, per Us Weekly. According to TLC's teaser for the season, viewers can also expect to see Brandon and Julia struggling with a potential pregnancy and the choice to eventually leave the family farm to establish their own life.
It's all very suspenseful, but some TLC viewers couldn't be less interested in Brandon and Julia's story. In fact, they say the couple is way too similar to others in 90 Day history. Let's dive in.
Are Brandon and Julia wasting their time?
Brandon Gibbs and Julia Trubkina come from different worlds — he's a conservative country boy who's set to take over the family farm one day, while she's a beautiful cosmopolitan type with a love for travel and nightlife. That trope is nothing new to 90 Day Fiancé, according to some fans on Reddit. They pointed out that Brandon and Julia's story is similar to others on the show, such as Mike Youngquist and Natalie Mordovtseva, who appear on Season 7 and Season 8 of the show.
"Yet again, farm boys going for high maintenance girls, and when the girls don't want to work the farm, they're money chasers and villainized," one Redditor wrote. "It's a plot we see over and over again... You loved these women cause they're gorgeous and love to travel and have expectations, but then you want them in rubber boots picking up poo? These guys need to stop selling a lifestyle they have no intention of sustaining and then blaming the women for being mislead."
"That was my take too," another user agreed. "The girls are going to be disappointed and I don't blame them."
Fans were also reminded of other cases where a woman on 90 Day was disappointed with her American fiancé's true lifestyle, such as Paola and Russ Mayfield, Jorge and Anfisa, and Anny and Robert. For what it's worth, at least two of those couples are still together despite it all. Here's hoping Brandon and Julia can also prove 90 Day Fiancé fans wrong.
