Why Jennifer Lawrence Hated Her Romantic Scenes With Chris Pratt

While actress Jennifer Lawrence skyrocketed to superstardom as The Hunger Games' Katniss Everdeen, her unfiltered interviews continue to endear her to fans each time she hits the late-night talk show circuit. But during her roundtable discussion with several other A-list actresses for The Hollywood Reporter in 2015, the Silver Linings Playbook star revealed the reason she hated her "first real sex scene" with Passengers co-star Chris Pratt in true Lawrence fashion.

Surrounded by legendary actresses like Jane Fonda and Helen Mirren, Lawrence noted that their scene was "really bizarre" and "really weird." Fellow Oscar winner Cate Blanchett then chimed in, however, and joked, "When you say 'real' sex scene, do you mean penetration or...?"

"No, no. Thank you for clarifying," Lawrence said. "It was weird. And everything was done right; nobody did anything wrong. It's just a bizarre experience." She then shared how she prepped for the scene: "You drink. I got really, really drunk." But, of course, doing so only sparked pangs of guilt because it was the first time Lawrence had to kiss a married man, as Pratt was still with actress Anna Faris at the time. "And I knew it was my job, but I couldn't tell my stomach that... You want to do it real, you want everything to be real, but then... That was the most vulnerable I've ever been."

However, with two of Hollywood's funniest young actors, it's no surprise that they emerged with hilarious details about their attempts to keep things professional.

Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt 'had a good laugh' about their love scene

At the peak of their popularity, actress Jennifer Lawrence and actor Chris Pratt signed on to Passengers, in which their characters, Aurora and Jim, find love after waking from suspended animation 90 years too early. Despite their obvious talents, however, Lawrence and Pratt found their love scenes quite awkward, including their characters' first kiss, as the pair had to overcome the obstacle of oversized spacesuits.

"We didn't know that was going to happen. So they called 'action.' And we went to kiss. And it was like, Donk! Donk!" Lawrence told USA Today as she recreated the sound of two helmets clashing. "Our heads couldn't reach each other. We had a good laugh about it, and we incorporated it into the movie."

Pratt added that, for one scene, he was tasked with rocking the table to simulate intercourse. "So I was sitting there at the table eating," Lawrence said. "I was surfing on the table, trying to simulate some sort of sex," Pratt noted. "Sex scenes are the most unsexy things in the world," she added.

Yet despite the awkwardness, the two have nothing but respect for each other. "We became fast friends, and I can never get tired of Jen," Pratt told Vanity Fair. "She's always fun to hang out with. We laugh a lot, and I had the best time making the movie with her." Could such comments have fueled rumors of an affair between them?

Jennifer Lawrence 'never had an affair' with her 'Passengers' co-star Chris Pratt

As two of Hollywood's most desirable, charismatic stars, it was only a matter of time before the tabloids manufactured an affair between actress Jennifer Lawrence and actor Chris Pratt as they filmed the 2016 sci-fi adventure Passengers. In fact, Pratt's then-wife Anna Faris said her publicist warned her of the potential media firestorm in advance. "I'd always taken pride in our relationship, and the coverage, even though it was just false rumors, was making me feel insecure," Faris wrote in her memoir Unqualified.

"Jennifer [Lawrence] and I really are friendly, and she was apologetic even though she didn't need to be, because she hadn't done anything wrong," Faris added. "She's awesome, but of course it's hurtful and also embarrassing when people are saying your husband is cheating on you, even if it's patently untrue. You still feel, and look, like a fool."

Of course, Lawrence came under fire once more when Faris and Pratt announced their divorce. But, yet again, the American Hustle star denied the rumors during an interview with KIIS FM (via InStyle). "I never had an affair with Chris Pratt on Passengers," she said. "That's a good one... I mean they got a divorce like two years later, and everybody was like — Jennifer Lawrence! And I was like, what the... what I'm in Montreal two years later." Plus, would the sex scene been that awkward if they were involved behind the scenes? Doubt it!
