Inside Angelina Jolie And Ellen Pompeo's Friendship

We never thought we'd see A-lister Angelina Jolie tempted to walk the halls of Seattle Grace, but apparently even Jolie is a Grey's Anatomy fan — so much so that she and Grey's star Ellen Pompeo are real-life friends. And we thought neither of them could get more iconic! 

Both stars are working mothers with large broods: Pompeo has three children with husband Chris Ivery, while Jolie has six children with ex Brad Pitt. Pompeo and Jolie are also politically active in their respective humanitarian causes. Yet that seems to be where their similarities end. 

Pompeo's rise to fame couldn't be more different from Hollywood royalty Jolie's. Pompeo began her acting career with the short film Do You Have the Time in 1995, and had bit parts in Catch Me If You Can and Daredevil before playing the lead love interest in 2003's Old School. By 2005, Pompeo had landed the titular part of Meredith Grey in the fan-favorite Grey's Anatomy, which wraps its 17th season in 2021. 

Meanwhile, Jolie began her career in 1982 using her father Jon Voight's last name. In 1999, she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in Girl, Interrupted, and wowed audiences a year later with Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Jolie went on to garner a second Oscar nomination for 2008's Changeling, before expanding into Disney films like Maleficent, Kung Fu Panda, and Marvel's The Eternals.
