Miley Cyrus Is Almost Unrecognizable In Isolation

There are some celebrities who stick with signature styles throughout their careers and then there are those who have changed so much that they were utterly unrecognizable 10 years ago. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, which has resulted in isolation orders in various countries around the world, many stars have gone through quarantine-triggered transformations that have made them unrecognizable.

Jojo Rabbit's Taika Waititi and Sex and the City's Chris Noth shaved their hair off (or, rather, Waititi let his kids do the job). Meanwhile, Jennifer Love Hewitt embraced pink hair, while Hilary Duff opted for a blue 'do. Then, there's "Broken & Beautiful" singer Kelly Clarkson who kept things casual, while "Get the Party Started" performer Pink got dressed up instead.

Other stars also showed off altered appearances, including Joe Manganiello (where's his beard?!), Amber Rose (is that long hair?!), and DJ Khaled (someone who will be happy to see their barber eventually!), as well as Miley Cyrus, who is certainly no stranger to changing up her look.

Miley Cyrus' mom Tish cut her daughter's hair into a 'pixie mullet'

New York and California based hairstylist Sally Hershberger took to Instagram on May 19, 2020, to share a picture of Miley Cyrus, who happened to have a new, noticeably different haircut. What made the transformation even more buzz-worthy is that Hershberger revealed that it was the singer's mom, Tish Cyrus, who did the snipping. "I trained Tish well! ;) @tishcyrus @mileycyrus #virtualhaircut lol," she wrote alongside the photo.

Apparently, the process was recorded and a video that was shared shows Tish wearing a face mask while Hershberger demonstrates and gives her directions via a video chat. Miley appeared to be perfectly calm as her mom chopped away, however, the star did stay perfectly still in order to avoid any errant cuts.

When the end result was shared, there was no denying that Miley looked quite different than she tends to while posing on the red carpet or performing on stage. The star, who likes to alternate between a sleek short style and longer locks, opted this time around for what E! News called a "pixie mullet."

Hershberger's IG followers seemed to be pretty impressed with the trim, leaving comments like "ICONIC!!! PUNK ROCK QUEEN," and "I loveee ittt sooo muchhh omggg." Omggg, indeed!

Did Miley Cyrus get a 'Tiger King' mullet?

While some people were into Miley Cyrus' quarantine hairstyle, others weren't too sure about the new look. In fact, there were those who even compared it to a viral Netflix star who famously sports a mullet. Yes, we're referring to Joe Exotic from the streaming service's popular Tiger King docuseries.

"Miley Cyrus really out here looking like the Tiger King," one Twitter user wrote. Another felt similarly, tweeting, "im not gonna lie miley looks like tiger king with this haircut she got going on."

While someone else wondered, "Whyyy does Miley have the Joe Exotic cut?????" Another social media user may have had the answer, writing, "Tiger King + Quarantine = Miley Cyrus." Remember when countless people got the Rachel cut because they watched Jennifer Aniston on Friends? Is that what happened to Miley when she watched Tiger King?! If that's the case, maybe the star should start checking out shows with characters who have better hair, just sayin'.

Indeed, hairstylist Justin Anderson explained (via Glamour) that this is a "dangerous" time for the singer, because she's apt to opt for minor "tweaks" to her appearance whenever the mood strikes. And apparently when the mood strikes while in isolation, Cyrus ends up with a Joe Exotic-like mullet. However, what she ended up with may have actually been better than what she had, since it turns out that she'd already tried to cut her own hair.

Miley Cyrus had already attempted to cut her own hair

If you're ever unable to visit the salon or barbershop — for instance, if you happen to be in isolation — then you may try to cut your own hair at home. There's certainly plenty of advice online on how to do so, just check out Allure, Elle, Good Housekeeping, or GQ for some helpful tips and tricks on how to trim your hair "without totally effing it up," as Cosmopolitan put it. We wonder if Miley Cyrus consulted any of these sources when she went at her strands with scissors back in March 2020.

While chatting with fellow star Kristin Cavallari and hairstylist Justin Anderson for her Instagram Live talk show, Bright Minded (via Glamour), Cyrus admitted she attempted to freshen up her hairstyle by cutting it herself. However, her technique was apparently not one that professionals would approve of. Glamour explained that the singer "combed all her hair forward from the back before starting to trim." Have you ever seen your stylist do that? Probably not!

Due to her quirky method, Cyrus may not have been too keen on the result. However, at the time, she seemed to shrug it off, referring to stay-at-home orders and reopening measures by saying, "Lucky for me, I'm not going to be seeing anyone." And yet, it wasn't long before she brought both her mom and a pro stylist in for a little help ... and ended up with a pixie mullet.
