- While at Syracuse University, Brandon co-founded an LGBTQ+ magazine called The Out Crowd. This was in 2007, and the magazine still exists today.
- He teaches courses on new media & society, new media & identity, media stereotyping, and gender & communication.
- He has been obsessed with pop culture since he was a kid, even once giving a classroom speech on award shows in seventh grade. It was not good.
Experience
Brandon has been writing professionally since 2007, beginning with an internship at the Syracuse Post-Standard. Toward the end of his Master’s program, Brandon moved to New York City and interned at Metrosource magazine, Out Traveler magazine, and (very briefly!) Mediapost Communications. Once he returned back to his native Canada, he worked in a variety of roles including a stint as Communication Coordinator for the Gay Men’s Sexual Health Alliance, as a contracted writer for Monster Canada, and as a blogger for Bell Media, one of Canada’s largest media conglomerates. While there, he wrote about finance and real estate with his trademark sardonic touch. In the past, Brandon has also been a regular freelancer for Jobpostings magazine, Change.org, and currently writes for Celadon Books in addition to his work with Static Media. He has also written for Reality News Online, motum b2b, and LOGO television’s website. In 2016, Brandon earned his Ph.D. and began working as a full-time professor, first in California and now in Massachusetts. He is currently a tenured associate professor who researches media content, media usage, and media’s effects on individuals, relationships, and culture. He started writing for Static Media in June 2021 to engage with his lifetime love of celebrities, television, movies, and everything to do with Hollywood.
Education
Brandon has a Ph.D. in Communication, specializing in media, and an M.A. in Magazine, Newspaper, and Online Journalism.
